Abstract Black and White Painting by Malcolm Chandler

United Kingdom, 2011

Born in London in 1944. Attended West Sussex Art College in Worthing, 1959-62 and went directly to work in the advertising agency J. Walter Thompson as a visualizer/ designer, then as a freelance illustrator working for the advertising and publishing world.
A wider interest led to a long term study of the methods and materials of old master painting which resulted in restoration work and copying old master replacements for galleries, universities and private collectors.
Always working to commission and able to be free of the gallery world very little work was ever exhibited.
The abstract paintings of recent years offered another area to explore and a form of expression which included all that had been learned and yet a freedom to discard everything in an unpremeditated search for the creative image.
Lives in Richmond, Surrey.
